Truck Crashes on CR 535, Route 32, Ridge Road and Route 33

On the local roads around Exit 8A, such as CR 535, Forsgate Drive, Ridge Road and Route 33, the State Police did not handle your crash. A town police department did, most often South Brunswick, Monroe, Cranbury or Jamesburg, and each releases reports its own way.

These roads carry the warehouse belt's truck traffic to and from the Turnpike. This page explains why so many trucks are here, what the crash data shows, which department holds your report, and what has to happen in the first weeks. Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq, P.C. handles those steps from offices in Edison, New Brunswick and Perth Amboy.

The road and its trucks

CR 535 (Cranbury-South River Road)

NJDOT's freight land-use crash analysis flagged CR 535 in Cranbury, Monroe and South Brunswick, mileposts 17.34 to 20.94, with 55 truck crashes and a truck-crash rate of 7.21, the highest of the 11 freight segments it analyzed statewide.

Where the trucks come from

The NJTPA freight study measured the highest truck volumes in southern Middlesex at the Exit 8A ramp at CR 535, the 8A ramp at NJ 32 eastbound, and US 130 between CR 522 and Fresh Ponds Road. It names CR 535 near 8A, Costco Drive and CR 522 as truck-crash hotspots.

Southern Middlesex County Freight Movement Study, NJTPA, 2023

NJ 32 (Forsgate Drive)

The federal crash file codes only a few crashes to NJ 32 (6) and Forsgate Drive (2) in 2021–2025. That reflects how officers wrote the location, not a quiet road. Crashes at the 8A ramps are often coded to the Turnpike or to CR 535 instead.

Route 33 at Prodelin Way / Perrineville Road, Monroe

Ranked 7th on NJDOT's list of rural truck bottlenecks, with about 2,276 trucks a day on average.

Fixes the county study recommends

Reconfigure the CR 535 interchange; signalize the CR 522 ramps; safety work at the CR 539 circle; clearance signage on CR 522; truck-turning fixes at Hightstown-Cranbury Station Road / CR 615; route trucks by US 130 rather than CR 619. None of these is a finding about any particular crash.

Private lots count

A crash in a warehouse driveway or yard is still reportable to the police “in the same manner” as a crash on the road, and the same NJTR-1 form applies.

NJTR-1 Crash Report Manual, 2017

Recent crashes on these roads

Crashes are described by date, road, town and vehicle type only. Involving a truck does not mean the truck caused the crash.

CR 535: 94 reportable truck and bus crashes in 2021–2025, none fatal, 32 with injuries and 38 people hurt. A tractor-trailer was involved in 56 of them, and an intermodal container chassis in 15 (FMCSA crash file).

CR 522 (Ridge Road): 44 reportable crashes, 1 fatal, 20 injured (FMCSA crash file, 2021–2025). The fatal crash in the federal file was on August 2, 2022, midday, at Kingston Lane in South Brunswick: an angle collision between a dump truck and another vehicle, in which one person in the other vehicle died (NHTSA FARS). The Route 1 end of Ridge Road, where a tractor-trailer crash killed three people on April 12, 2024, is covered on the Route 1 page.

Corn Road, South Brunswick: on August 31, 2020, at night, a single-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on an unlit section; the truck's occupant died (NHTSA FARS). Crashes on the warehouse access roads are part of this corridor's record too.

Across the four towns around Exit 8A (Cranbury, Monroe, Jamesburg and South Brunswick), there were 589 reportable truck and bus crashes in 2021–2025, with 12 people killed and 307 injured (FMCSA crash file, town names merged).

What's hard to do alone

  • Several small departments, shared dispatch. Four towns meet at Exit 8A. South Brunswick dispatches for Cranbury and Jamesburg polices Helmetta, so the department that answered the phone is not always the one that wrote the report, and three of the four have no confirmed online report method.
  • The warehouse has the video. Gate cameras and yard cameras at the distribution centers record the approach roads, and they overwrite on the facility's own schedule. Nothing requires the warehouse to keep that footage unless it receives a preservation letter.
  • One load, many companies. A truck leaving an 8A warehouse may be owned by a lessor, driven for a carrier, booked by a broker and loaded by the warehouse. The name on the door is often not the responsible carrier; the NJTR-1 carrier boxes (50–52) are.
  • The carrier's own records expire. Electronic logs are kept six months; driver vehicle inspection reports three months.

“To protect your claim, a truck accident lawyer can preserve evidence, review company records, and identify responsible parties.”

What GGL does for you here

  • Identifies which department wrote the report and orders it, in person where that is faster than a vendor
  • Sends preservation letters to the warehouse or yard for gate and lot video, and to the carrier, lessor and broker for logs, engine data, dashcam and dispatch records
  • Reads the report's carrier boxes and requests a change report if the responsible carrier is wrong
  • Tracks the Prosecutor's Office investigation when a crash is fatal or charges are pending
